Easy Homemade Chocolate Recipes
If you would like to make some chocolate treats then there are lots of different ways of doing this.
The simplest chocolate cakes don't even require the oven to be switched on. You will need to melt some chocolate though. Do this in a bowl over a pan of bubbling hot water. Use a couple of hundred grams of chocolate chips, or a large bar. You will also need a spoonful of golden syrup stirred in to the melted chocolate and a large volume of either cornflakes or crispy rice cereal. Melt chocolate, add syrup, take off heat. Pour in the cereal and stir until well covered. If you don't put enough cereal in then there's a higher chocolate ratio which some people like. The general rule is you keep adding cereal until you have no melted chocolate at the bottom of the bowl. Put the mixture in to cup cake cases and leave to set. Children can help you mix in the cereal and ladle out the mixture.
Add chocolate chips to any cup cake recipe. You can add them to biscuit mixes too. Any recipe almost can be made more interesting with the addition of chocolate. You can buy special cooking chocolate for this or use bars of normal chocolate. Cooking chocolate is in small chips which makes it easier to melt. It's also available in white, dark as well as milk.
You can also add chocolate chips to ice cream for an extra treat! Or use it to melt and mix with butter or cream to make an icing for the tops of cakes. This is delicious and stays sort or hard according to the recipe you use. You can easily get a good finish with a little practice at pouring!

Luau Recipes
Luau food has its origins in traditional Hawaiian culture. These are some food and drink recipes you could try at home for your Luau.
Pork with rice is a classic Luau dish. For the traditional Hawaiian, cooking preparations start early in the morning on the day of the Luau. Large wooden logs are placed in a pit dug in sand and covered with river rocks. The logs are set on fire, and the pig, along with sweet potatoes, is placed on top of the heated rocks and banana leaves. The pit is covered with sand for around 8 hours. It takes that long for the Kalua pig to be ready.
Other traditional foods at a Luau are poi, chicken long rice, lomi salmon, haupia or coconut custard, sweet potato, salad, fish, rice and tasty tropical drinks like pineapple daiquiris, mai tais, piña coladas or chi chis with fresh fruit garnishes and tiny umbrellas. You can add alcohol to these drinks to enliven the mood of the party. The serving table is usually decorated with leafy greens, fruit and vegetables.
A Luau meal could have the following menu: Kalua Pig, Poi, Sweet potatoes, Luau or laulau, Lomi salmon, Tropical fruit such as pineapple, mango and papaya, haupia, Mai Tai Drinks.
These are some common Luau recipes:
Luau Chicken
This is made by removing the skin and bones from chicken breasts and cutting the chicken into inch long cubes. Some oil is heated in a large pan and the chicken cubes are sautéed along with garlic, until light brown. Stock is added to this and cooked until chicken is tender. Spinach and coconut milk is added to this and cooked along with the chicken.
Long Rice and Chicken
Long rice is soaked in warm water for almost 30 minutes while boneless skinned chicken is cut into inch-long cubes. These are sautéed with garlic until light brown. Stock, ginger, soy sauce, mushrooms and long rice is added to this and cooked over low heat for 20 minutes or until chicken is tender. It is served topped with green onion rings.
Pickled Onions Hawaiian-Style
A large bell pepper is deseeded and sliced into quarter inch long strips. These strips, along with small whole onions, are placed in a glass jar covered with rice vinegar, water, salt and crushed red pepper to taste. The jar is covered tightly and refrigerated overnight and it is ready to serve.
Haupia
This is made with sugar and cornstarch blended in water and stirred well. This mixture is added to coconut milk and cooked over low heat till the mixture thickens. This thickened dessert is chilled and cut into little squares.
Mai Tai
This classic Hawaiian cocktail is made by filling a large glass with an ounce of light rum, half an ounce of orange Curacao, half an ounce of candy syrup and juice of one fresh lime. The glass is then topped with orange juice and ice. It is served garnished with mint leaves and a pineapple slice.

The most popular mixer for Teisseire in France is plain water for a flavorful thirst quencher (1 part syrup to 7 times water). Hence the cries in a French cafe for un lait fraise (milk with strawberry syrup), un Perrier menthe ( Perrier with mint syrup), une tomate (pastis and grenadine syrup), une mauresque (pastis and orgeat syrup), un diabolo fraise (lemonade and strawberry syrup), or un tango (beer with grenadine syrup).Fruit syrups have always been a part of the French way of drinking, whether mixed with water, Perrier, lemonade, milk, pastis, or even beer.

Low Carb Key Lime Cheesecake
If you're following a high-protein, low-carb diet, then you are, unfortunately, restricted to how much sugar you can have. For example, in the Atkins diet for low-carb eating, the induction phase only allows up to 20 grams of carbohydrates for the first two weeks. After that, you slowly build up the amount of carbohydrates until you are still losing weight, but at a slower rate at the recommended one to two pounds a week.
Here's a quick review of sugar and its carbohydrate content:
* White sugar (1 tsp), 5 grams
* Brown sugar (1 tsp), 5 grams
* Blackstrap molasses (1 tbsp), 17 grams
* Honey (1 tbsp), 19 grams
* Syrup (1 tbsp), 20 grams
* Fructose (1 tbsp), 25 grams
As you can see, one teaspoon of sugar contains five grams of carbohydrates and if your following the Atkins induction phase, it only takes four teaspoons of the white stuff to reach your carbohydrate limit. But with all that high-protein and low-carb food, you are still going to have some cravings for the sweet stuff. For those times you want to indulge your sweet tooth, and you are a fan of key lime pie and love the tartness of those limes, indulge yourself with this low-carb key lime cheesecake instead of careening off your diet path!
Key Lime Cheesecake Crust
* 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
* 1/4 cup granulated Splenda sweetener
* 1/3 cup melted butter
Key Lime Cheesecake Filling
* 1/2 to 3/4 cup key lime juice (start at 1/2 cup and add more for desired tartness)
* 1/4 cup water
* 2 (1/4 ounce) unflavored gelatin packs
* 5 eggs, slightly beaten
* 1 tbsp grated lime peel
* 1 stick of butter, softened
* 2 (8 ounce) packages of softened cream cheese
* 1/2 cup whipping cream
Key Lime Cheesecake Garnish (optional)
* sweetened whipped cream
* lime slices
Gather all crust ingredients together and mix until well blended. Press the crust mixture on the bottom of a 8 or 9-inch springform pan. Next, combine lime juice, water and gelatin in a 2-quart saucepan. Let stand 5 to 7 minutes to soften. Add sugar, lime peel and eggs. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for about 6 to 8 minutes, until it just comes to a bowl. Be sure you DO NOT BOIL the mixture! Get a large bowl and combine 1/2 cup butter and cream cheese and beat on medium speed until well mixed. Slowly beat in the hot lime mixture from the saucepan and continue to beat until well mixed (about 2 minutes). Set mixture in the refrigerator for about 1 hour, until it has cooled. Stir the mixture occasionally to keep the lime peel from sinking to the bottom -- it should appear speckled throughout the cake. While the mixture cools, take this time to chill a mixer bowl.
Once the hour is up, take the chilled mixer bowl and beat the whipping cream at a high speed, until it forms soft peaks and doesn't fall off a spoon or wire whisk. It should take about 3 to 5 minutes to make the whipped cream. Fold the whipped cream into the lime mixture and pour into the springform pan with the crust. Cover and refrigerate until it is firm with a slight shake of the pan (about 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours). Loosen the edges and remove the side of the springform pan, garnish the top with sweetened whipped cream and lime slices.
Makes 12 servings.
